This fall, Gulf Coast football fans have gotten to see their team suit up for battle in familiar gear as well as some new ensembles thanks to the addition of new uniforms made by Nike.
In addition to navy blue headgear, the Bulldogs will also have the option of wearing new white helmets. Gulf Coast now has gold shirts and pants added to its traditional navy and white uniforms. The four highlighted uniform combinations for 2012 are the following:
IN THE BLUE
The Bulldogs all-navy look took shape in 2006 and has been the team’s signature look for home games and for three trips to the Mississippi Bowl. In the last six seasons, Gulf Coast is 36-3 when wearing this uniform, which includes all the three of the team’s MACJC titles.
WHITEOUT
Gulf Coast introduced this look in 2008 and got a key road win at Pearl River. Since then, the Bulldogs are 7-2 when wearing the all-white uniform, including a road win at Jones in 2009 that sealed an MACJC South Division title. The team’s new white helmets will only add to the “white out” mystique in 2012.
GOLD STANDARD
The Bulldogs all-new gold look really isn’t new. In fact, it serves as a living memory of past Gulf Coast national titles in 1948 and 1971. Combining the gold jerseys and pants with the team’s other ensembles now gives the Bulldogs 18 different uniform combinations.
ROAD DOGS
The team’s familiar white jersey, navy helmet and pants combination is the signature look on the road and has served as a visual reminder of past victories in hostile territories, including the team’s 2007 CHAMPS H.O.T. Bowl win over Kilgore that sealed an NJCAA title in 2007. Add in the new white helmets, and you’ve got “Road Dogs 2.0.”
