MGCCC’S Alex Puyol helped lead the men’s squad to a 9-0 win over Hinds on March 25.
Chilly, windy conditions couldn’t cool off the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College men’s team as it shut out Hinds 9-0 and upped its record to 10-0 on the season.
The Bulldog men, ranked No. 17 in the ITA rankings, were led by Alex Puyol, Lachlan Puyol, Sean Alexander, Nick Georgian, Travis Burdick and Grant Bell. In No. 1 singles, Puyol cruised past Max Gunbin 6-0, 6-1 while in No. 1 doubles, Puyol teamed with Robinson to defeat the Hinds team of Gunbin/Yevheniey-Horbik 8-3.
The Lady Bulldogs (5-5) slipped by Hinds 5-4, with Kit Chowdhary, Aliesha Barlow and Mary King leading the way. With the women’s match tied at 4-4, Chowdhary took down Latoya Whisley 6-2, 6-2 to secure the win for MGCCC. In doubles action, Mary King and Aliesha Barlow beat Arrissa Johnson and Octavia Pendleton 10-7 in a match tiebreaker.
