As part of the Healthy Living Initiative at MGCCC, campuses have established fitness center hours for employees and a variety of interesting activities to get everyone involved in exercise.

The fitness center at the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center is open during work hours.

The fitness center at the George County Center is currently closed due to work on the floor.  Plans are being made for fitness and health-related activities for employees during fall semester.  Employees will be notified of these plans by email and through In Touch.

Jackson County Campus Gym/Fitness Center hours, beginning September 3, are Monday-Thursday, 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m., and Friday 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. (court closes at noon for cleaning). The campus pool is open on Monday and Wednesday, 12-5 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday, 1-5 p.m.

The Fitness Center will be closed for classes on Tuesday and Thursdays from 8-8:52 a.m. and 2-2:53 p.m. The Gym court will be closed Monday and Wednesday from 12:15-1:30 p.m. for class.

The Jackson County Campus will sponsor a 100 Mile Club beginning September 3 and continuing through December 6. The various activities available on the Jackson County Campus –weight lifting, biking, swimming, kayaking, rock climbing, disc golf, etc.– can earn miles.   For more information or to sign up for the club, contact Brent Holifield, Recreation coordinator.

There will also be an Aerobics class on Monday and Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the gym.  These classes will include step aerobics and Zumba!

At the Jefferson Davis Campus, the Weight Room and Gym are open on Monday and Wednesday, 7 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m.; on Tuesday and Thursday, noon-6 p.m.; and Friday, 7 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-4 p.m.   These hours are subject to change depending on staff availability, academic classes, holidays and other factors.

FREE exercise classes offered at the Jefferson Davis Campus include the following:

·       Resistance and Core Training Class helps build strength and tone muscles – Tuesday & Thursday, noon-1:15 p.m.

·       Zumba helps improve your cardio-conditioning – Monday, 3:30 p.m., and Wednesday, 2 p.m.

·       P90X/Insanity helps build strength and tone muscles – starting in October on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 1 p.m.

For more information on those classes, contact Jeff Johnson, Recreational coordinator.

The Jefferson Davis Campus is also starting a Carbs Anonymous competition.

The idea of this contest is to move toward a fitness goal of being the “best you” possible. There will be different categories judged each month for September, October and November.  Each employee who wishes to participate must weigh-in with the Recreational coordinator at the Jefferson Davis Campus gymnasium. Be on the lookout for an email coming soon with more information about this event.

The Perkinston Campus Fitness Center is open to all employees from 6 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 6 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday.

The Perkinston Campus Recreation Department is also sponsoring 100 Miles in 100 Days for both students and employees.  The kick-off meeting was on August 26. The program is a free, non-competitive, walk/run event that will run until December 3. Late starters are welcome (but will have to make up the miles).  Contact Zach Crawford, supervisor of Wellness and Recreation, to sign up or for more information.
