The MGCCC men’s soccer teams works toward opening the MACJC schedule Saturday, Sept. 7, against Southwest.

Both Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College soccer teams opened 2013 by competing against the best the NJCAA has to offer. The results weren’t stellar, but the experience was huge as the men and women get set for the grind of the MACJC schedule. This weekend the men & women host Southwest in the MACJC South Division opener.

Men (0-2-1)

The men’s squad opened with losses against Eastern Florida and San Jacinto, the NJCAA’S 6th ranked team. Then on Sept. 1 the Bulldogs played to a 2-2 draw with perennial National powerhouse Broward (FL).

“After three tough games, our young team is learning what college soccer is about,” said Gulf Coast head soccer coach Chris Handy. “They know the level of effort and energy it takes every game to get victories. They’re ready to meet the challenge of our first conference game.”

Women (0-2)

The Lady Bulldogs opened with losses against #8 Darton and #2 Eastern Florida. “The girls have been working extremely hard to get ready for the tough MACJC South division schedule,” Handy said. “We’ve spent many hours focusing on details within the game in order to eliminate mistakes. I look forward to watching them compete this Saturday and meet that challenge.”

After Saturday’s (Sept. 7) games with Southwest, MGCCC travels to Pearl River Sept. 10 and to Meridian Sept. 14 before a home date with Co-Lin Sept. 18.

The Lady Bulldogs will be in action Saturday, Sept. 7, for the first time since Aug. 23.
