The Jefferson Davis Players will present “James and the Giant Peach” in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jefferson Davis Campus on Dec. 4-8.  Performances on Dec. 4-7 will be at 8 p.m. and on Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.

On Thursday, Dec. 5, a special dinner theatre combination will be presented with dinner in the Hospitality and Resort Management Center (across DeBuys Road from the auditorium) at 6:30 p.m., with the show following in the auditorium. The meal will include grilled peach and wilted spinach salad; seared trout over baby root vegetable and bean salad with a Rushton peach broth; and caramelized peach Tiramisu.  The cost of the dinner theatre combination is $20, and reservations are required.

The play, written by Roald Dahl, was adapted for the stage by Richard George. It deals with exciting events like a magical peach, an imprisoned boy, insect friends and an incredible journey.  This amazing adventure of James Henry Trotter will fulfill the fantasy of anyone who has ever dreamed of escape. This story comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization that reveals the wickedness of some, the goodness of others, and the indecision encountered by many when they are faced with crises. You will see James (as he cleverly gets the Peach out of danger), the wise Old-Green-Grasshopper and the pessimistic Earthworm. You will also see James’ mean Aunt Spiker and cruel Aunt Sponge come to a suitably sticky end. The action is tied together by the Narrator, a storyteller, motivator, emcee and audience friend. Come see James and his friends embark on this exciting, peachy adventure!

The cast includes Jacquelyn Dunn, mother/crowd member; Jacob Cumberland, father/second officer; Timothy Waters, narrator; Ana Ortiz, Aunt Sponge; Lea Reed, Aunt Spiker; Ian Phillips, James Trotter; Antonio Barnes, little old man/ first officer; James Rojas, old green grasshopper; Cody Ghiloni, silkworm; Ariel McLendon, glowworm; Alyssa Diamond, centipede; Chris Smith, spider; Shannon Wooten, ladybird; Nicholette Salinas, earthworm; Anthony Valdez, captain; Mathew Boothe and Jacob Cumberland, cloud men; and Lakisha McGowen, Anthony Valdez, Jacquelyn Dunn and Jacob Cumberland, onlookers.

The crew includes Ryan Pierini, director; Maryann Schmidt, stage manager; Jacquelyn Dunn, assistant stage manager; Mary McGravey, light board; Kaitlynn Dumal, sound board; and Erika Ritter, costume designer.
