Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College won first place in the 2013 People’s Choice Award for Career Technical Education and Training on the Mississippi Gulf Coast during The Sun Herald’s annual contest. The award was presented to MGCCC president Dr. Mary S. Graham on August 5 in Gulfport.
“We are pleased to receive this award. It tells us we are making a positive difference on the Gulf Coast,” Graham says. “We continue to assess our district’s workforce needs so that we can align our career/technical programs and workforce-training programs to targeted industries and also to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skill sets, all which lead to career advancement for our students.”
Nominations and voting by the public were done online. Nominations began in April and voting was in May. More than 48,000 votes were cast during the contest.
